Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear.
A few miles we ended up in a back up for a few miles & the truck was stuck in second gear. Pulled over (took a few miles till I could pull over) & let the truck cool down/check the trans fluid. Everything reads ok. Drove the truck home, it shifted fine, but shifts quick instead of the soft delayed shift. Transmission light came on also.
Start the truck in neutral, and pull the shifter straight down to 1st gear. Drive it, and see if you can manually shift it to 2nd with no hiccup's. If it still acts up with that 7 pin connector unplugged, you have an electronic issue (in the valve body). while you have it down go ahead and check the tower seals. the solonoid pack bolts to the valve body. just unbolt it and bolt in the new one, the new one may not come with the same color connector, will be white or grey, but no worries here. bolt it all back up, clear your codes and drive. the 4 is the limp mode.

Your transmission, the 48RE, does not have a Limp-In Mode. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are all hydraulic and 4th gear uses a solenoid and a transducer to engage the clutch along with the Torque Converter Clutch. I'm guessing that with a 2007 model your 48RE has some miles on it. When was the last time the pan was off.P0218 is a fluid temp issue. P0988 is also a fluid pressure issue. The last 3 will most likely be caused by the first. You can't get it to work in any gear other than 1st when you start from a stop and 4th. That's what limp mode is. The truck is protecting what's left of the transmission. The codes have to be cleared to get it out of limp.
