Starting this new character, I'm rushing for the Estoc. It's amazing. It's one of if not the best weapon right now (rivaled by I believe the Sunlight Straight Sword and the Dark Sword). So far, i have 12 str, 12 dex, 16 adp and started as a knight (i hope it was the best class. I still can reroll the class, im not too far into the game).

Balder Side Sword blows the entire Rapier weapon class out of the water by having a thrusting R2. If you are dead set on a Rapier you definitely want to have a high Int or Faith to use a buff on it.

The Estoc is basically a Str based Rapier. With the Ring of Blades and Old Leo Ring, it's unstoppable. That’s a good setup for a strength build. The craftsman hammer is a better version of the mace IMO, but you can’t do better than the estoc for a fast strength weapon with pierce damage. Both.

If you try to outrange someone with a rapier, you're setting yourself up for failure, imo.

+15 is always the best upgrade for most weapons in my experience in pve. not so sure about pvp. +15 always gave me the most damage especially with scaling. since I always go dex build, and I'll mostly go for uchigatana, +15 did a lot more damage than a +5 lightning uchi, because it scaled better. but maybe its a specific scenario that doesn't apply to much else?

A dex build is really lame until you reach the higher levels. I recommend a dex/int build. You'll end up a spellsword. Make sure to get your weapon (estoc, ricard's rapier, balder side sword) to +15 asap. With a good buff (crystal magic weapon) you'll do great damage.
