I now have the issue again and unfortunately I am just outside the 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty as I bought my Acadia on 9/21/2017 and have 36,400 miles on it. Automatic transmission. 54,000 miles. My console displays P and my dash board indicates P but when I turn the engine off the system says I still have to shift into park and a warning tone starts beeping. One or both are likely worn and/or damaged so will need repair or replacement. At 55,000+ miles it cost me $373 for a new switch, cable and labor to fix it. The 2021 Slt Acadia has buttons for gear selection rather than a shift lever. My 2019 GMC Acadia started having the known "shift to park" issue that is affecting these make/models. This is a known issue and GMC has not issued a recall for it, nor are they covering any cost of repair. When the car is put into park, the screen displays a message that says "shift to park". This results in being unable to turn the car off.

IMO .. . the new TSB repair is more time consuming than just replacing the whole shifter. GM should perhaps have dealers send the shifter core back to have the new parts retro fitted at a facility. No issues with the shift to park on 2020 that we have seen. Not likely, since the problematic shifter mechanism is not used in the 2020.
