I did not pay sufficient attention - the LCP Max 380 is a double stack magazine. Rounds in a double stack tend to press out as well as up to the feed lips. The interior of the magazine must be clean to allow for minimal friction as the rounds are pressed upwards.

The slide lock on my 1st generation LCP was stiff but manageable. My 2nd generation was very difficult to move even with the slide removed.
