I bought it a both Bass Pro and Brownells this last year, I use it for many calibers. I use it for 300, 350 and 405 jacketed bullet loads.MP-5744 was a double-base military powder, made by Hercules. The Army didn't like it. When it hit the surplus market, it turned out that it worked well for cast bullet loads in large volume cases such as .30-06 and .45-70, without needing fillers. I used up a 1000 Winchester LP magnum primers in my 45-70, no issues and in reality you can use them for most 45-70 loads as they are normally used in rounds that make pressures to 40,000 PSI. The long range load for my C Sharps 45-70 is 27 grains of 5744 under a Lyman 457125 which weighs 525 in 20/1. My mold has been lapped to drop at .459". My Sharps likes boolits seated to touch the lands (2.95" LOA). 25-28 grains of 5744 should get you in the 1200-1300fps range. Just have to find the node for your rifle. If you load it to little you cause a high pressure problem, if you load it to much you cause a high pressure problem. Hodgdon does not even list a load with it.
