John deere 4020 problems.
New User. Mar 20, 2017. #1. I have a John Deere 4020 Diesel that developed a miss. The first step to cure miss was to remove the pencil injectors and have them tested. All cracked/popped adequately, however, 2 of the injectors test pattern was not real good if pressure was added slowly so I replaced them. This did not cure the miss.
The John Deere 4020 may experience problems regarding the hydraulic, clutch, steering, powershift, and PTO mechanisms. I was able to fix it by shortening the park cable. You can do this behind the dash by taking off the hood cowl (I think that's what it's called). It has a threaded end so it can be shortened.Feb 14, 2021. #1. Directly behind the oil pressure gauge is a small hole in the governor housing. Oil will go through that hole and run down a trough to the oil tube. Remove the oil pressure gauge and take a small stiff piece of wire and you can unclog the hole. I had the same issue with a 37 A. It takes some. patience but it can be done. OP.
SM-2039 from Deere is the right manual for your 4010 and the early 4020. I don't see any mechanism for the clutch to over center, but the manual says it latches. Its like the engine to transmission clutch, except that the lever pushes the plates together on the PTO clutch, there's no springs and the individual clutch levers are opposite acting.

Make sure the surfaces are clean and I roughed them up with some really coarse sandpaper so that the JB weld had something to bite. I have had them on for 6 months and so far so good. Sorry but I think you'll need to remove RS valve housing to resolve the 3 pt problem. 1st I'll suggest to acquire a 5000# gauge and check stand-by pressure. Subject: Re: 4020 John Deere info wanted. The early 4020 diesels came out of the factory with a goofy 24 volt positive ground system. It can be hard for the average person to work on. Some have been converted to 12 volt negative ground that is a lot simpler and easier to diagnose electrical problems on.
