The first 39A's were made in 1939 and only that year had case colored. I thought maybe with a low number it may have been a first year. When I entered your serial number in the Marlin Data base it had nothing on it. I don't think it would be any later than 1940 or early 1941. It is definitely a First Model because there is no prefix.It did say Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn in italics on the barrel and it does say MARLIN GOLDEN 39A in caps. I know "golden" means its not old old. But it only had a 4 digit serial number located under the lever handle on the bottom tang, 3367. The Marlin 39AS ( the ones with the crossbolt safety) came out in the late 1980's. If that's the one you have your serial # dates to 1992. The formula is 100-the first 2 digits of the serial # (100-08 =92) They are really nice rifles! The model 39 (Not 39A/39M) was made from 1922-1938. Since you rifle does not have the HS prefix on the serial number it means it will not take the high speed .22 long rifle cartridges. Marlin Model 39 .22 S,L,LR caliber rifle.
