#1. Hi all. Setting the points on my 15hp m/n 15404G. I can not find my feeler gauges to set the initial .02 setting but don't think i need to as according to the machinists site as this is only an initial setting and i need the points to open as my timing marks pass another mark on the armiture/magneto plate mark.Had an ignition issue at end of last year and I replaced stator, timer base, powerpack and voltage regulator. Now, at idle forward it hovers around 650rpms which is great most of the time. However occasionally it dips down to 600rpms and wants to stall. No lean sneeze or anything this is not a carb issue. May 8, 2021 · Hi. I have a 1985 Johnson 100 hp commercial outboard. The model number is J100WMLCOC. I cannot find the wot timing spec anywhere. I have looked many times on the net and here with no luck. What I am seeing is cranking at wot with the timer base rubber stop hitting it's stop is 21 degrees. Of course at wot this should equate to 25 degrees. The pointer is called a timing fixture but it is really a tool to adjust the ignition to fire as close as possible to 180 degrees apart. Any kind of a tool would work as long as it was straight and fasten to the crankshaft If you set one set of points you could put the pointer between the marks. To set the timing on that engine, have the s/plugs out, and have the throttle at full, set that timer base under the flywheel tight against the rubber stop on the end of the full spark timer advance stop screw (wire it against that stop if necessary). Rig up a spark tester on the #1 cylinder plug wire.
