I'd say there's 4 options for melee, in no particular order: 1- Ash/loki = invisibility. 2- Valkyr = high armor + melee buffs. 3- chroma with armor+strength for highest tankyness but requires high ranked mods. 4- Iron skin rhino for easy mode melee vs low level enemies.

There really is no universal end all be all status. I mean one could make a case for just slash. But I'm assuming OP means elemental.
