The thing about "optimisation" is that you can always bring it up as a reason why the game doesn't run at X framerate. If it was a stable 30 FPS, you could say it's not optimised enough because it could run at 40.

Zelda 1 is obviously the highest-selling of the bunch at over 6 million. It was a groundbreaking game for its time, and the only game of its kind. With Zelda 2, after the "fad" had worn off, sales dropped and stabilized around the 4 million mark for the next few years.
