There a number of threads here regarding the shifter not fulling shifting into Park (I should say "not knowing that it's been fully shifted into park"). Apparently new shifters are on back-order everywhere. Your post is the first I've seen regarding the manual shifting button, but since most people don't use it, I guess that's to be expected.

Flip the switch on the shifter about 50 times, is a temp fix. To fix permanently, replace the shifter switch and add the jumper cable. GM pays the Dealer 0.3 hr for the repair if under warranty. Definitely if under warranty let the Dealer do it. If warranty expired, watch the many You Tube videos of how to do it.

GM will likely be able to bury this problem because it appears the problem was identified and later corrected. 2016 - 2018 Malibus and Volts have the same issue, as do 2017 - 2018 Acadias.
