Other decks were Ognis in game 1 and the 40K Esper precon in game 2. I …To completely ignore the Vorthos aspect when discussing a Vorthos product is a complete erasure of an entire section of the EDH player base. Magus is 100% vorthos. She leads the genestealer cult which inevitably draws the swarm to them. And a portion of the cards reference the cult as well.The existence of expensive products that commander players want to play is hardly a new experience. A lot of people for a long time have wanted precons with a higher value (more optimized mana base, multiple 15-20 dollar cards, etc) and understand that means charging more and creating more scarcity.The 40k precons were all very good, and better-received than many other products UB or otherwise.
