It's same thing, all MAX have Ryzen 3000 compatible BIOS from factory, it's up to you if you wish to upgrade BIOS later. The CPU won't be bottlenecked by the motherboard, it'll either work or it won't, though some really crappy motherboards have VRMs that can't handle the power draw of higher-end CPUs. The Tomahawk MAX isn't one of those crappy boards though. Not many games are going to max out the 6 cores on the 5600X, and benefit from the 12 cores on the 5900X.

This was my first time flashing BIOS and it was easier than expected. The 5600x runs well on the B450 Tomahawk Max so that saved me the cost of a new mobo. Temps are fine with a CM 212 Evo cooler. I let the cpu boost itself when gaming (no manual overclocks.) The only thing I noticed is the cpu debug LED on the mobo is always on now.
