I can confirm that terraforming, does indeed, get rid of the resource. I did that in my current game not even thinking about it when I noticed my nanite income was 0. Not I’m using 2 and producing 2, but just 0. Check the planets and the resource was gone. You lose the resource permanently. Learned this a couple games ago to my disdain.
