From my studies there are 3 or 4 that are the top contenders: 1- Rotella. 2- Amsoil. 3- Mobil 1. 4- mutual (or something like that)Beyond these two recommendations, you get into personal opinions. My personal opinion is to use full synthetic Amsoil 10W-40 motorcycle oil. for coolant, I generally used a generic/house brand from Meijers that is silicate free or another low cost brand. Choose synthetic-- it's inherent properties result in a "tougher", more durable/ more capable lubricant (and coolant) when compared to traditional mineral based oil. One guy (who claims to be a mechanic) gave a long list of stuff he has to do to maintain the shaft drive on his Vulcan 750. I have owned several shaft drive bikes, and never had to do more than just change the oil and lube splines at the final drive.
