To me, if you can make the same power with a 6,000 rpm 406 and a 7,000 rpm 355, then the 355 is more likely to break bottom end parts due to rpm. Now, if you can afford all the best in bottom end parts, then this may not seem big.

hi , I have put to giver a 383 with std 195cc afr heads , comp cam xr282hr , edlebrock rpm air gap manifold , 750 double pumper Holley , comp cam gold 1.6 roller rockers. on the dyno it made 450hp @5500rpm and 456 tq @ 4500. great for the street and not over the top. with 3.73 and a 2500 rpm torque convertor it's a good street car.68 Camaro with 383 small block. I've been setting-up the clearance between the ring gear and my mini-starter on my 383 sbc and have figured-out I need ~.120-.140 of shims between the block and the starter to get the required clearance (.025-.060) between the bendix gear and the flywheel.The only problem i have with the 400 is the block. They came in heavy vehicles and got worked hard from day one. I was to build one for my 4x4. i went thru 6, yes 6, 400 blocks before i gave up and went to a 383. the main decks cracked all to hell when the torqueplate was put on. I am building a 383 SB and was looking for some information on the pros and cons of using 6.0 inch rods as opposed to 5.7 inch rods.
