I obviously know the technical differences between a mod and a standalone. The biggest thing for me is the movement. You have more freedom than you realize in standalone, in the mod it is a struggle to move around with precision. The mod feels more robotic, like you have to do one thing at a time. It's a game that I was always interested in from a distance but all I kept reading about was development hell and feature creep that slowed down development.
