They usually have multiple gates open to enter so don't necessarily target the first gate you see open If there's a long line of cars to get in. The trouble comes at end of the festival when everyone is leaving all at once.

Just FYI. We have premier shuttle 6pm to 4am. Going to EDC we went on at 8 pm with no problems. Coming back from EDC, we tried to get on the shuttle at 3am but when they scanned our card and their machine went X. So the worker denied us and said to come back at 4 am or take the regular shuttles. Just wanted to let everyone know our experience.
