Mandolin Chord Shape names. I don't know of any official naming of these shapes (aside from maybe "the Big Chop"). I do however enjoy making up my own names. Since I write the posts, you'll have to deal with my silly names. On a side note, I think making up silly names for things can be a great way to remember them - and laugh about it.

This chord chart for mandolins is more or less as advertised: an 8"x11" cardboard chart of mandolin chords including major, minor, minor7, maj6, maj7, diminished, and augmented chords. The chords are shown with numbers for where to place fingers. Each chord is shown in only one position on the neck, which is quite limited.For example in Kentucky Mandolin how do I play the Gm chop? Moving up the next a little shrinks the distance between the frets and makes it a hair easier. Also realize that you can pretty easily drop the E string from that chord and use the three lower pairs alone.
