Both bows are extremely user friendly. The Phase 4 isn't sold below 60#. If you want a Matthew's at 50#, look to the Image. The riser on the Phase 4 is as long as the riser on the TRX 34. The Hoyt VTM may come in a lower poundage, idk. The bow draws a bit smoother than the Matthew's.
I had just sold a ventum 33 and wanted to try a different brand than hoyt. My ventum 33 was pretty dead also so I imagine the VTM will be close to the phase 4. Both companies are very proud of the bows they make. Hoyt produces compound and recurve bows while Mathews only produces compound bows. If we compare the compound bows; the featured differences are Hoyt has split limbs and hybrid cams; Mathews has solid limbs and a solo cam. The cam systemis the biggest difference.

Tie. Quivers: Mathews has a new quiver that is close to the riser. Hoyt has a similar option but is adjustable to help balance the bow to the shooters preference. If I had to choose a winner here, it'd be Hoyt. Hoyt has the lower mounted stab, which is a great feature. Ventum has shims, which I despise.I shot a matthews phase 4 29 and the new hoyt vtm 34 as well. My takeaway was I didn't like the way the matthews fit my hand. It felt a little top heavy, not crazy but kind of noticeable and could've used a back bar. The vtm 34 was awesome at anchor bc it felt less scrunched up but I could literally feel my pinky shake with the shot like vibrating.

I swore my next bow would be a Mathews after buying my son a Phase 4 this summer, it is such a smooth shooter. Well, that changed when I picked up an end of year VTM 34 for a great price. Hoyts have been a love hate for me. Love my ProForce but seem to fight my helix here and there. The VTM might replace both as I get more used to it.
And by “higher,” I mean over $1,000. Hoyt has quite a few compound bows that go for close to $2,000, but they also have a few that price at less than $500. As for Mathews, their lowest-priced bow for 2019 is still above $800. For those willing to spend some serious cash on a quality bow, $800 isn’t a huge sacrifice.
